Old freja files accessible

It is now possible to restore the backup file of old freja, meaning that stuff from the old machine can now be downloaded to new freja. Please tell me what files you wish to save, if any, as I will not unnecessarily clutter up the new disk with stuff that noone wants!

neuGRID second year review successful

Last week, the neuGRID project's progress after its second year of existence was evaluated in Brussels in the presence of reviewers selected by the EU commission. At this review I presented a user's bird's-eye view of neuGRID from the outside, which was very well received by the reviewers. Thanks to the efforts of the whole neuGRID team, the project passed the needle's eye and will receive funds for the third (and final) year. Yay!

Finally, more coffee

The coffee has been replenished in the kitchen.

neuGRID summer meeting moved

The neuGRID June quarterly meeting has been moved and will now take place at KI during June 7-9. We expect to organize a hands-on session with the purpose of 1) making users more familiar with the neuGRID environment 2) provide valuable feedback to the application constructors. All will be welcome to this event! More information about it later on.

Installations

The latest versions of FreeSurfer and FSL have been installed on freja.

Moving the users' meetings

Due to my upcoming absences, we will have to move the next two users' meetings.

The March meeting is moved from the 16th to the 23rd.

The April meeting is moved from the 20th to the 27th.

Both meetings will be held at 11.00 in the R43 conference rooms.

Eva's spring absences

During the spring I will take part in several meetings, conferences and courses. This means I will be absent from the lab the following dates (possibly with a day for travelling attached to the ends of the period):

15th - 19th of March: neuGRID meeting in Amsterdam
25th -26th of March: neuGRID second year review in Brussels
12th - 15th of April: 5th EGEE User forum in Uppsala
20th - 22nd of April: DCMTK (dicom toolkit) course in Oldenburg

In June (31st of May - 3rd of June) the neuGRID quarterly meeting will be held here at Karolinska, so you can expect me to be very much out of the office then too.

The latest from the lab

Many things have happened since I last had the time to update the blog...

* Congratulations to Yi Zhang on defending his thesis successfully!

* Old freja died, new freja is up and running but not yet up to par (e.g. the dicom server is not working)

* We have visitors, right now and upcoming:

-- Julia Miralbell (PhD student at Department of Psychiatry and psychobiology, University of Barcelona, Spain) who will stay until the end of May

-- Ariadna Besga (Postdoc at Carlos III Health Institute, Madrid, Spain) who will stay until the end of March but will be back later in the spring

--Jeffrey Looi (Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Australian National University Medical School, Canberra, Australia) will be visiting during 26th of April to 7th of May

* We have two exam work projects in the lab:

-- Carlos Aguilar Palomeque on "Machine learning classification of Alzheimer patients based on MR data" (currently running)

-- Victor Alvarez Barrientos on "Brain image processing for revealing early Alzheimer's disease signs" (starts in May)

* Oh, and Pierre left the lab on 16th of December for work elsewhere.

Eva's leave of absence

The lab will be without a supervisor during January. I will be on Christmas vacation and then on leave of absence until the 8th of February. I have put a red binder marked "SMILE" in the bookshelf by the red wall, which contains manuals and how-to:s for the more common tasks in Imagelab (reading CD:s and so on), which hopefully will be helpful during my absence.

Freja is incapacitated

During my absence (at the neuGRID Toledo meeting last week, which by the way was very rewarding, with a presentation of the graphical interface of the grid) freja decided to close down on itself. Tomas has heroically tried to get it back up, but so far no success. We have been working on getting the new freja online instead, but have not managed to do so before the Christmas break. Work will continue after New Year's...

Eat more fruit

KI course Brain Imaging

The KI course Brain Imaging is now in full swing (still 2-3 listener seats available though!). Today (Tuesday 8.12), tomorrow and on Thursday the Imagelab will be full of KI students testing various software applications.
